Support Unit

Kanwal Public School has three Special Education classes within the mainstream setting – one Multi-Categorical (MC) and two Emotional Disturbance (ED) classes. Placement in these classes is decided at a selection panel through the Department of Education Tuggerah Office.

Each class has a Teacher and School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to assist in the classroom. Each class has seven students aged between five and twelve years.  All students in the support classes work from a Personalised Learning and Support Plan based on ability levels across several domains – academic, social, wellbeing and behaviour. These Personalised Learning and Support Plans are developed collaboratively with parents and carers and understand, engage and celebrate strengths, diversity, interests and aspirations of our students. All students work towards achieving K- 6 outcomes in each of the Key Learning Areas.

The school provides a dynamic learning environment where each student is encouraged to reach his or her full potential whilst experiencing success. Kanwal Public School is committed to ensuring that all students reach independence, appropriate to their abilities, in a safe, supportive and caring environment. Students are integrated into mainstream activities within the school where appropriate.
